Frequently Asked Questions
What is pulsed light? How does LumiSilk work?
Good question!
IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. It works similarly to laser hair removal, but it’s much easier and safer to use at home. Our IPL devices emit light waves that target the pigment in the hair. When the light is absorbed, it turns into heat, destroying the cells responsible for hair growth. As a result, hair grows back more slowly and less frequently, and over time, hair growth is permanently reduced.
Is LumiSilk IPL hair removal safe? Can it cause cancer?
Pulsed light is a popular and well-documented method for safe and effective long-term hair removal. Our pulsed light devices are FDA-certified for safe at-home use. They also carry FCC, CE, and RoHS certifications.
LumiSilk IPL hair removal does not cause cancer or any long-term complications related to UV exposure. All UV rays are filtered to protect your skin.
Is using the LumiSilk IPL painful?
No! Unlike other hair removal methods, pulsed light is virtually painless: no discomfort, no knee strain, no painful scratches. People with sensitive skin may experience slight discomfort at high intensity, but by choosing a lower level, the treatment remains very gentle.
How long does it take to see results? Does the LumiSilk IPL hair remover work permanently?
Most customers notice a reduction in hair growth after just 3 or 4 sessions and achieve full results after 12 sessions.
Some customers achieve perfectly smooth skin after 12 sessions and no longer need to use a razor. Others, however, may require maintenance treatments, which is completely normal! LumiSilk has a lifespan of over 30 years, allowing you to perform all the treatments you need for as long as you wish. By following the LumiSilk IPL hair remover usage instructions, you can enjoy permanent hair reduction!
How often should I use the LumiSilk IPL?
We recommend IPL sessions once a week for 12 consecutive weeks. If you prefer, you can use the device up to twice a week for faster results.
After this initial 12-week phase, use the device once a month for three months or as needed. Thereafter, perform touch-ups as soon as new hair appears, usually every 2 to 3 months.
How is the device powered? Is it available in my country? What type of plug does it have?
Our devices are dual voltage (110V~240V) and can therefore be used worldwide. Each LumiSilk IPL device comes with a 12V adapter and a plug compatible with your country.
For example, orders shipped to Spain are delivered with a round two-pin plug.
How do I clean my LumiSilk device?
To clean your device, first unplug it from the power supply. Then wipe it with a clean, dry cloth dampened with 70% alcohol.
Do not use acetone or other abrasive products that could damage the device.
Finally, dry the device with a dry cloth or paper towel.
Never immerse LumiSilk or its components in water.
Do I need to shave before using pulsed light? What other hair removal methods can I use?
Don’t put your razor away yet! Shaving is an essential step to properly prepare the skin before a pulsed light treatment. Shaving shortens the hair enough to avoid burns while leaving the root under the skin, which optimises the effectiveness of the LumiSilk IPL device. Other methods, such as waxing or using tweezers, remove the hair root, which reduces treatment effectiveness. For optimal preparation, use a 4D razor before your pulsed light session.
However, if the area to be treated is already smooth and hair-free to the touch, shaving is not necessary. If you use your LumiSilk IPL device on your face, we recommend performing a dermaplaning treatment before your session.
What is the IPL lamp made of?
The flash lamp of our device consists of a xenon and quartz tube with a glass filter that blocks harmful UV rays.
Safety tips for using pulsed light
At what age can I start IPL treatments?
The LumiSilk device is intended for use by adults. Persons under 18 years old should not use it.
What do I need to protect my eyes?
It is not necessary to wear protective glasses when using LumiSilk.
Intense pulsed light emits flashes of light, but each LumiSilk device is equipped with a sensor and never emits strong flashes unless the lamp window is pressed against the skin.
However, it is recommended not to look directly at the light when it is emitted.
Can LumiSilk IPL be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Although there is no evidence of a negative effect of pulsed light on pregnant or breastfeeding women, for safety reasons, we do not recommend using pulsed light at home during this period.
Can pulsed light be used on freckles or moles?
Pulsed light should not be used on very dark freckles or moles, although light freckles generally do not pose a problem. If the area to be treated has dark freckles or moles, it is better to cover them. In this case, it is recommended to conceal them with a white pencil before starting the treatment.
Is it safe to use pulsed light on tattoos?
It is not recommended to use pulsed light treatments on tattooed skin, as this can cause painful burns. However, it is perfectly possible to avoid the tattoos when treating surrounding areas.
Can I use LumiSilk IPL before or after tanning?
If you have recently tanned, it is best to wait 2 weeks before using LumiSilk IPL.
After IPL treatment, it is recommended to wait 48 hours before exposing yourself to the sun again.
I have a skin problem. Can I use LumiSilk IPL?
Do not use LumiSilk IPL if you have any of the following conditions:
-Skin diseases.
-Skin conditions such as allergic dermatitis, eczema, etc.
-Photosensitive epilepsy or light hypersensitivity.
-Menstruation, pregnancy, or breastfeeding.

When will I start seeing results?
